Starting Archery

So how do you get started in archery? Like most clubs, we offer beginners’ courses for anybody new to archery, where we will teach you the basics of shooting safely and with confidence. We welcome adults and juniors from 8 years old upwards.

The course last for four weeks, with one session of about two hours per week. We realise that most people’s main exposure to archery is from watching Lord of the Rings or Robin Hood, and that modern target archery isn’t quite like that! The course gives you the chance to try it out properly and then decide at the end whether you wish to join the club and continue shooting. Please don’t buy any equipment beforehand! We will provide everything you need during the course, so we will make sure you use the most appropriate equipment that is suited to your physique.

If you decide to join us after the course, you still don’t need to go and buy your own equipment straight away. This can be done in your own time, and we will provide advice on the best places to buy from and help you find equipment that is appropriate for you.

Our courses are taught by ArcheryGB qualified coaches and other experienced members. ArcheryGB clubs all follow a comprehensive safeguarding policy, and all coaches are Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checked.

Costs

The fee for the course is £40 for adults and £20 for juniors (under 18).

Should you decide to continue shooting after the end of the course, you will then need to join the club. See the Membership page for details of the fees.

Gift Vouchers
